Meridian Diet Pills Another Empty Promise?

Posted on January 6th, 2009 by somnath chougule in Diet Logs

Meridian diet pills aim to help overweight people control their hunger and therefore lose weight. Though this pill contains pharmalogical agents, there is an issue of benefits vs. risks involved. However, a lot of overweight patients with serious health risks caused by excessive weight do not have many options. Every day we are bombarded with images of thin models in magazines, television, movies and billboards. Did these models got their slim body with the help of this diet pill is an important issue? Advertisers and drug companies target those who are insecure about their bodies. The media encourages being thin as the only way to be accepted and considered beautiful. Many of us fall in this trap and take pills for few weeks without any success. No one to blame, you should blame yourself as you do not know the basics, so just keep reading.

Meridian diet pill is an orally administered diet pill for the treatment of obesity. The active ingredient of meridian is sibutramine which is a centrally acting stimulant chemically related to amphetamines. There are numerous studies documenting the weight loss effectiveness of meridian, but at the same time there are also a number of potential meridian side effects. Meridian diet pills has been reported to cause increase in blood pressure, and it can also cause dizziness, headaches, heartburn, insomnia, weakness, dry mouth, change in appetite, chest pain, skin rash, depression, vomiting, fever, etc. With all these side effects, is this pill offering you another empty promise?

In 1997, meridian approved by the FDA, is a prescription weight loss drug that works by acting on appetite control center in the brain and it affects chemicals in the body that are related to weight loss. Combined with a reduced calorie diet and proper exercise meridian is meant for short term use in the treatment of obesity. Meridian is generally recommended for individuals with body mass index of 30 or higher who are at higher health risks because of their weight problems.

Now, just take a look at the people who cannot take this pill.

* Have a major eating disorder
* Pregnant women or planning to become pregnant
* Have blood pressure
* Have allergic reactions to meridian diet pills
* Have severe liver or kidney disease
* Have heart conditions such as prior heart attack, irregular heart beats, or coronary heart disease
* Etc, etc, what is remaining?

How many people in this world are totally fit? If at all fit, do they require this pill to keep themselves fit? Hope, you got my point! Many of us have one or other problem stated above, so can we rely on this diet pill?

As previously mentioned sibutramine is effective in weight loss, but it has to combine with physical activities. With a weight loss target of losing 1-2 pounds per week, start off by reducing your calorie intake by 500 calories. Better to discuss this with your physician to determine what will best suit your needs. Along with a proper diet, performing physical activity regularly will provide numerous benefits as each pound of lean mass you gain will help you burn an extra calorie per day and thus it will help you to keep that weight off. The key is you will have to depend more on other activities and meridian only acts as an extra food supplement.

At the start of your treatment Meridian diet pill is usually prescribed for a period of four weeks. Regular check up with your doctor is mandatory during this period. The patient is kept under observation by the doctor in this period of four weeks to check for any signs of weight loss or side effects. Your blood pressure and heart rate is also monitored carefully. A 10mg dose is to be consumed daily, if this is not good enough then your doctor may increase your dose to 15mg (daily) after 4 weeks. A weight loss of about 4lb is estimated during the course of this medication. If the desired result in terms of weight loss is not achieved, either stop this medication or increase the dosage as per your doctor’s advice. Again the same problem, you may or may not get expected results!

Meridian diet pill is a serious medication used to loose weight for health measures and should not be looked at as a cosmetic to look slim. It is not recommended for someone who wants to loose few pounds but for people who have a higher BMI (body mass index). A BMI 18-24 is considered to be normal, over 30 are considered overweight and below 18 are underweight. So, I just tried to guide and express my personal feelings based on experience. After all, it’s your choice, depend on good foods along with proper exercises rather than diet pills available in the market.
